Robby Gordon believes in Dodge

With Penske Racing switching to Ford next season that could leave Robby Gordon as the only driver running under the Dodge nameplate next season. Gordon believes being the only Dodge in the garage will be a benefit as he seeks ways to make his race team more competitive.

Sponsorship for Robby Gordon’s team has been limited to his Speed Energy Drink and some occasional sponsorship from Menards. Menards founder John Menard owns a portion of Gordon’s race team.

Gordon has run Dodge cars in the Sprint Cup series for the last four seasons. He gets his motors from Joey Arrington’s Race Engines Plus. Gordon believes he has an advantage over other teams possibly looking for Dodge support because his team builds all his own cars.

“If I had a [full] factory program in place, I’d show up and drive all the races,” Gordon said. “Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to fund this thing. With Speed Energy, that’s been about the only way I can build a business that actually can turn some profit [for sponsorship].(Scene Daily)(3-7-2012)

Gordon finished outside the top-35 in owner points last season and has had to qualify on time in order to run races thus far this season. Previously the veteran driver has said he will run a limited schedule but Gordon may place a different driver in his car for the weeks he is not running it.

Dodge contends that they will have a presence in NASCAR for 2013. They will introduce their Sprint Cup car at Las Vegas and rumors have been circulating about organizations who could make the switch to Dodge. Earlier this weekend it was announced that Nationwide team MacDonald Motorsports has switched from Dodge to Toyota for the remainder of the year.
