Penske plans to run Hornish at Cup level in 2013

Team owner Roger Penske says that running Sam Hornish at the Sprint Cup level in 2013 “would be the goal.” Hornish was victorious in the Nationwide race at Phoenix this weekend.

Hornish has been running a limited Nationwide schedule this season after three years at the Sprint Cup level.

While Hornish was accomplished at the Indy Car level he lacked any experience in NASCAR. Something that was escalated when Pesnke opted to push Hornish up the ladder quickly. There were also limited chances for Hornish to run Nationwide races during his time at Penske and results were a disappointing two top-5s and eight top-10s in three seasons at the Cup level.
