Edwards resigns with Roush

Carl Edwards has finally put an end to the garage talk. The current Sprint Cup points leader has decided to stay with Roush Fenway Racing. While the total numbers have yet to be announced it will keep Edwards in the #99 for multiple seasons.

Edwards began racing full time at the Cup level in 2005. That season he finished third in the points (after losing a tie break to Greg Biffle) His best year came in 2008 when he won 9 races but still finished second to Jimmie Johnson.

There had been widespread speculation that Edwards would jump to the Toyota camp of Joe Gibbs Racing driving the #20 which is currently driven by Joey Logano. Reports had Edwards getting up to $18 million.

For some the possibility of Edwards leaving Roush for another organization seemed a lot like the previous exodus’ of Jeff Burton and Mark Martin. Both drivers had previously had success driving for Roush but left for other organizations.
