Giants choose Wellemeyer as fifth starter

Cardinals pitcher Todd WellemeyerThe San Fransisco Giants have optioned Madison Bumgarner to Triple-A giving the fifth starters spot to Todd Wellemeyer.

Wellemeyer, 31, has a 1.20 ERA over 15 innings (five appearances) this spring, while the 20-year-old Bumgarner turned a 6.43 ERA in seven innings.

Wellemeyer doesn’t offer much for those in fantasy leagues but he gives the Giants the best chance to win to start the season while Bumgarner will be allotted some additional minor league time to get things in order.

Normally I wouldn’t have much interest in Todd Wellemeyer but considering I did write about him and how I expected him to be the Giants fifth starter just a week ago I feel the right to toot my own horn a little.
