In the end though Texas was too much and midway though the third quarter Colorado crumbled when faced against a talented Longhorns squad.
Colorado went into halftime with a surprising 14-10 lead but aided with a blocked punt and a defensive touchdown the Longhorns outscored the Buffaloes 28-0 in the second half.
While Colt McCoy’s overall numbers looked solid (32/39, 265, 1TD/1INT) it masks that there was little production in the first half until he found Jordan Shipley with 2:05 left in the second quarter.
Shipley later ran a punt back 74 yards that extended the Longhorns lead to 17.
The running game again provided little to the Texas attack totaling 46 yards on 25 carries. The longest run coming on a 12 yard scamper by Foswhitt Whittaker that resulted in the final score of the night.
The big storyline from the Buffaloes aspect was coach Dan Hawkins benching his son quarterback Cody Hawkins in favor of Tyler Hansen late in the third quarter.
With the win Texas is now 5-0, while Colorado dropped to 1-4.
