Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland is progressing following surgery on his knee and is hopeful of losing his crutches in the next month.

There has been constant speculation about whether or not Holland injured his knee by falling over his dog as he said in the past.

“I actually did fall over my dog on the stairs,” he said during Rangers fanfest on Saturday, via Fox Sports. “It’s not a joke like everybody tries to make it seem. I was just clowning around with my dog and things went too far.”

Holland has been taking it easy in hopes to avoid a setback. He is unsure if he will report to spring training when pitchers and catchers report.

All signs point to Holland being out until mid-season. In 2013 Holland made 23 starts going 10-9 with a 3.42 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.
