The San Diego Padres have signed Brandon Wood to a minor league deal.
Once a top prospect, Wood has not appeared in the major leagues since spending part of 2011 with Pittsburgh. Now 28-years-old Wood is a longshot to contribute to the Padres this season. Wood produced a .226/.262/.329 line with four homers and 30 RBI in 65 games at Triple-A last season.
Decker, 26, hit 19 home runs last season in 359 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A. He will compete for a bench spot with the Padres but may have to wait until the season begins to see any time at the big league level.
