With Tony Stewart out of action to start the 2016 NASCAR season the No. 14 Chevrolet will be driven by Brian Vickers at Daytona International Speedway.
Vickers must first be cleared by NASCAR to race. The driver previously has dealt with blood clots and will need to go though a few steps before being able to climb into Stewart’s car.
Stewart-Haas Racing has scheduled a Friday news conference to announce who will drive Stewart’s car at Daytona. Stewart suffered a burst fracture of the L1 vertebrae in an all-terrain vehicle accident last month.
While Stewart is eligible for the Sprint Unlimited this Saturday night, Vickers is not. Vickers ran two races last year while dealing with blood clots finishing 15th at Las Vegas and 18th at Phoenix.
Vickers has three carer wins in the Sprint Cup Series.
