Matt Kenseth took a hard hit into the tire barrier at Sonoma Raceway during Sunday’s running of the Toyota Save Mart 350.
Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were racing side by side on a narrow part of the track when Earnhardt’s car hit a curb and made contact with Kenseth’s No. 20.
At that point Kenseth’s car took a hard right destroying his front end and giving his first career DNF at Sonoma.
The hit was also hard for Kenseth in the point standings. Without a win Kenseth is not currently locked into a Chase spot. Entering Sunday’s race Kenseth was 11th (first of the drivers who have not won a race) he will stay there but his healthy lead over 12th will be trimmed.
Kenseth was checked at the in-field car center and was released.
