The #33 car will no longer be a Richard Childress Racing entry after this weekend. Childress is selling the team to Joe Falk.
When the car takes to the track at Texas it will be completely fielded by Falk who is still listed as a co-owner of the #40 Toyota of Hillman Racing that Michael Waltrip was unable to race into the field at Daytona. Falk will likely use the existing Hillman Racing shop as the headquarters for the #33 team but no driver has been announced.
By acquiring the team and it’s owner points, Falk will ensure that the car will be locked into the field for the upcoming races regardless of who is driving it. The team is currently 35th in owner points and will have Hermie Sadler drive the car this weekend at Martinsville in it’s last race as a RCR entry.
The car was driven by Elliott Sadler in the Daytona 500 and then was driven by Brendan Gaughan with sponsorship from South Point Casino.
While Childress said before the Daytona 500 that the car would run the first five races it was also stated that Austin Dillion would drive the car a few times in addition to the full Nationwide Series schedule. With the transfer of the team to Falk it is unknown if Dillion will drive at the Sprint Cup level or in what car.
