The San Diego Padres seem to have ruled out trading outfielder Seth Smith after signing him to two-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Smith’s availability had some contenders contacting the Padres but the team instead have given him a two-year deal worth $13 million. Additionally there is a $7 million club option for 2017 which will guarantee Smith at-least a $250,000 buyout.
The breakdown on the Seth Smith deal is $6m for 2015, $6.75m for 2016 with a $7m club option for 2017 with a 250k buyout. #Padres

Acquired in the offseason from Oakland for pitcher Luke Gregerson, Smith has been the stalwart of the Padres offense producing a .281/.384/.506 batting line and nine homers over 72 games.
