Once the amateur draft began Kendrys Morales was no longer tied to draft pick compensation. It only took a few days before the slugger signed a one-year deal.
Morales has joined the Minnesota Twins and will earn the prorated portion of $12 million for the rest of the season. That works out to roughly $8 million. Numerous teams were interested in Morales but were unwilling to surrender a draft pick which left the 30-year-old unsigned until now.
