Johan Santana will not be returning to a major league mound in 2014. The left hander has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles which will force him to miss the entire 2014 season.
Santana was trying to retrieve a ball during extended spring training. The veteran pitcher had been hoping to join the rotation of the Baltimore Orioles in mid-June but now is questionable to ever pitch at the big league level again.

We should get an update on Santana’s plans in a few days. Santana, 35, is 139-78 with a 3.20 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP across parts of 12 big league seasons.
