New rule gives NFL teams third QB on game days

The NFL has added a new bylaw which will allow teams to have a third QB active on game days without using a roster spot.

Under the new bylaw the quarterback has to be on the 53-man roster and not the practice squad. They may only enter the game in the event of an injury to the two active quarterbacks ahead of them.

The NFL is hoping to avoid another instance like the NFC Championship Game where the 49ers were left without a capable passer after injuries.
