The Washington Redskins will not start quarterback Robert Griffin III until he is 100 percent healthy.
Head coach Mike Shanahan insisted on Wednesday that the team would not rush to get Griffin back on the field.
“We need to make sure he doesn’t go too quickly because he could set it back,” Shanahan said. “There’s time it’s going to take to do it the right way. The ligament needs time to heal. … When you see how hard he’s working, everyone is really optimistic. But you have to let a ligament heal.”
Playing at less then 100 percent, Griffin’s knee collapsed in the Redskins playoff loss to Seattle. Since that time the quarterback has underwent reconstructive knee surgery.
Thus far the news of Griffin’s knee has been promising but the Redskins appear willing to start Kirk Cousins under center if necessary.
