Athletics beat Rangers to win AL West

The Oakland Athletics trailed the Texas Rangers in the AL West every day dating back to April 9th. The Oakland Athletics trailed the Texas Rangers by 13 games on June 30th.

The AL West was Texas’ to lose. They got swept by the Athletics to finish the season and suddenly it was gone. The 170 days the Rangers led the AL West is the longest any team has ever led a division and not won it.

By the third inning the Rangers had a 5-1 lead.

Not only did Josh Hamilton fail to hit a home run he also made a game deciding error. A three run error by Hamilton in the bottom of the fourth with two outs plated three runs for the A’s.

In the end the game was not even close. Oakland was on their way to routing Texas at that point. The final score 12-5.

Texas will now play in a wild card play in game on Friday against either Baltimore or New York.
