Cowboys right to bring back Phillips

Carolina Panthers v Dallas CowboysEd Werder of ESPN is reporting that Wade Phillips will return to the Dallas Cowboys as their head coach in 2010. Phillips guided the team to the NFC East crown and the organizations first playoff victory in 13 years.

Phillips also serves as the Cowboys defensive coordinator. The Cowboys defense finished as the second overall defense in the league this season.

There’s also the rumor being floated around that Phillips will have another season added to his contract.

Had the Cowboys not made the playoffs or had they fell on their face against the Eagles in the first round I’d be saying it’s time for Wade to go. The Cowboys however did win the games they needed to win and prior to a collapse against Minnesota looked like a team that could be poised to go the distance.

I don’t think one loss should change that. Had the Cowboys played bad down the stretch and then had the outing against Minnesota I perhaps would be saying it’s time for Wade to go but you can’t argue with winning no matter who the opponent has been.

Frankly I wouldn’t expect many changes to happen on the Cowboys coaching staff at all.
