Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States is hopeful of winning an Olympic medal in Sochi. The 18-year-old Shiffrin hails from Vail, CO and is favored for gold in the Slalom event.
In the last year Shiffin became the youngest World Champion in 39 years and is the first American born World Cup champion since 1984. Shiffin is the first non-European to win four World Cup slalom races in a season.
