American snowboarder Arielle Gold, who was favored to win a medal, will not be competing in the 2014 Sochi Olympics after suffering an injury during training on Wednesday.
A U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association spokesman confirmed the news.
American’s will have to rely on Hannah Teter, Kelly Clark, and Kaitlyn Farrington during the final to bring home the medals.
Gold, 17, and her brother, Taylor, who qualified for the Men’s Halfpipe team, made the trip together. Taylor finished eighth in Tuesday’s Halfpipe finals.
Gold qualified for the team in part thanks to a second-place finish at the U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colorado, in December.
