The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Raphael Diaz from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Dale Weise, the team announced on Monday.

Diaz was on the trade block since he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

In 46 games this season, Diaz posted 11 assists and a minus-4 rating.  The Canucks have several holes to fill on their back end because of injuries, so Diaz should be able to step into the lineup immediately.

Weise, in 44 games for the Canucks has three goals and nine assists while racking up 42 penalty minutes. In 162 career NHL games Weise has 10 goals and 16 assists.

Diaz will represent Switzerland at the Olympics in Russia this month.
