No blimps at Super Bowl XLVIII

Blimps are a sign of major sporting events. Unless it’s a Super Bowl in a cold weather environment.

Executives from MetLife and Goodyear have both said that they will not have blimps in the air for Super Bowl 48 which will pit the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks against one another.

“The concern really is freezing rain and snow and its accumulation on the airship,” Goodyear spokesman Doug Grassian said, via Newsday. “The additional weight can significantly change the flight characteristics of the airship and creates an unsafe scenario.”

So no aerial footage of this years Super Bowl. I doubt it will make a huge difference to all of those who will be sitting around their television this Sunday.

What do you think about the lack of a blimp a this year’s Super Bowl?
