The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield have interest in a new contract for the 2024 season according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Mayfield, 28, signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers with a base salary of $4 million which included incentives which even if all were met would not top $10 million.
As the season is nearing a close the Buccaneers find themselves 7-7 and in first place in the NFC South largely in part because of Mayfield’s play over the past three weeks where the team has defeated Carolina, Atlanta and Green Bay.
On the season Mayfield had thrown for 3,315 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to eight interceptions. His 54.8 QBR is the second highest of his career behind only the 65.5 he posted in 2020.
Considering his success this year, Mayfield figures to have options at the end of the season which should result in him getting a much better contract.
Two weeks ago Mayfield’s wife Emily shared that the two were expecting a baby girl in April.
