San Francisco 49ers left guard Mike Iupati has been diagnosed with a broken left fibula according to the Sacramento Bee.

Previously 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh had stated that Iupati had a broken ankle so this is better news. It should also mean that Iupati has avoided surgery and has no ligament damage.

Iupati will be back to full strength in a matter of months and should have no problems being ready when training camp arrives.

In the second quarter Iupati suffered his injury and the 49ers ground game never got going, with the exception of Colin Kaepernick scrambles. Frank Gore managed just 14 yards on 11 carries. It certainly played a role in the game plan of the 49ers in the second half.
