Mark Sanchez named Jets starter against Jaguars, Tebow to backup

Mark Sanchez will be the starting quarter for this weekends game against the Jacksonville Jaguars according to an announcement by New York Jets coach Rex Ryan on Wednesday morning.

The Jet’s announced the decision on their official Twitter.

Sanchez has 12 touchdown passes to 13 interceptions this season and was benched in favor of Greg McElroy in the second half of Sunday’s 7-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News said that the Jets never even considered Tebow – but we know that, it’s been the case all season.

UPDATE: Speaking with reporters Wednesday afternoon, Rex Ryan said that Tebow would be the backup to Sanchez if his ribs are healthy. That news is surprising as Ryan was deciding to start either Sanchez or third string QB Greg McElroy.
