Leon Lett remains football’s biggest turkey

Leon Lett was part of three Dallas Cowbo Super Bow teams. Lett was a two time pro bowl player. Yet, the most memorable plays of his career are blunders.

The most memorable  play of Lett’s career happened in a game against the Miami Dolphins in 1993.That day the Texas Stadium was covered with snow and sleet as a rare storm pounded the area. Dallas led 14-13 with 15 seconds left when Miami sent Pete Stoyanovich out for a 41-yard field goal attempt. Dallas blocked the kick which should have ended the game, except Lett attempted to recover the ball as it lay on the field. He slid on the ice touching the ball but not securing it. The Dolphins would recover the muff and kick a game winning field goal with 3 seconds left.

Surprisingly the play altered the seasons of the two teams. Miami took the lead in the AFC East after the game but went on a five game losing streak and missed the playoffs. Dallas went on to win the rest of their games culminating with a Super Bowl victory over the Buffalo Bills.
