The college football season gets underway for the No. 6 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks and unranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday.
South Carolina will host their rivals to the north at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia for the 6:00 pm game which will air on ESPN.
Entering the game South Carolina is a 12.5 point favorite. The over/under for this game is currently 56.5 total points.
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is 21-2 against North Carolina since leaving Duke after the 1989 season.
While Spurrier will get plenty of footage during Thursday’s telecast there also should be plenty of play for All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The 274-pounder has been impossible to ignore after his jarring hit i the Outback Bowl against Michigan last year.
“Jadeveon, obviously, he and `Johnny Football’ are the two guys the whole country’s been talking about,” Spurrier said in a press conference, referring to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. “And I think Jadeveon’s handled it very well. He’s ready to go.”
Tar Heels quarterback Bryn Renner will try to operate the offense against Clowney. Renner has thrown 54 touchdowns over the last two years in becoming the only North Carolina quarterback to throw 20 or more touchdowns in multiple seasons.
