Rick Hendrick said on Tuesday during the NASCAR Media Tour that he was still actively searching for a long-term sponsor for the No. 88 Chevrolet driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
“We’ve talked to a lot of people,’’ Hendrick said. “I want a long-term deal that fits and isn’t a conflict with the other guys.’’
The National Guard will be on Earnhardt’s car for 20 races. PepsiCo will feature brands on the No. 88 car for five races. That leaves 13 races in which Earnhardt’s car does not currently have sponsorship for the 2014 season.
“We will listen to anybody, and we’re always looking, but there’s no like, golly we’ve got to find somebody,’’ Hendrick said.
Analysis: Earnhadt Jr. has been NASCAR’s most popular driver for the last decade and the price tag for sponsoring his car reflects that. Hendrick is not about to sell advertisement space for one offs. They found sponsorship last year and will do so again this year.
