Scott Speed will drive the number 46 Ford Fusion for Whitney Motorsports for the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Speed had attempted and qualified the number 37 Ford of Max Q Motorsports at Indianapolis, Pocono and Watkins Glen. He drove a Nationwide car outfitted by Kevin Harvick at Montreal this past weekend finishing sixth.
Whitney Motorsports had employed Erik Darnell in the 46 car the last four weeks but he failed to qualify at Indianapolis and Michigan prompting the change. Whitney has also employed Andy Pilgrim, Scott Riggs, Brian Simo, JJ Yeley and Bill Elliott this year while occasionally fielding a second car the number 81.Yeley had ran the most races for the team (15) before he left for Front Row Motorsports to drive their number 55 car.
Speed made the announcement on his facebook page. No word on any Darnell thus far.
