Brian Keselowski again facing uphill battle

It’s been just about a month since Brian Keselowski was pushed into the Daytona 500 by his brother Brad and already things are looking grim for the unfunded driver. Even before the green dropped at Daytona Keselowski was questioning wheter the team would attempt to make the following races at Phoenix and Las Vegas. Despite crashing out of Daytona, Keselowki and crew attempted to make the next two events. They didn’t make it.

This week at Bristol marks a critical point in Keselowski’s season. Making the race would mean continuing on to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana while failing to qualify may just about end things.

Keselowki was the odd car out in Phoenix and Las Vegas, of the 44 cars attempting to make the race he was the only who didn’t earn entry. Last season he ran in the Nationwide Series but with that series making a change in cars elected to run the Sprint Cup series this year since his father and son race team had cars capable of running the Cup races.

It hasn’t worked out so well for the team following Daytona but he only needs to top one car to make the event again this week. Anything remains possible.

Even should Keselowki qualify for this Sunday’s race it’s unknown how many laps he will run. Last season he attempted to run select races early on in the Nationwide schedule but turned to a start and park car down the stretch.

Keselowski had hoped to run a full season this year and compete for the Rookie of the Year award. Currently Andy Lally (#71) is the only other driver competing for the award.
