I will be the first to admit I know little about tennis. However, I can imagine having your doctor remove a nail from your toe is not exactly a fun experience.
That is exactly what happened to Victoria Azarenka, 23, following a pedicure gone bad.
After playing in her first two matches in the Brisbane International, Azarenka withdrew from her semi-finale match against Serena Williams 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Azarenka had quite a 2012 winning the Australian Open and a gold medal in mixed doubles at the London Olympics. She also claimed a bronze in single competition and had become the world’s top-ranked player.
“It just got infected from a bad pedicure experience,” Azarenka said. “They cut a little bit too much and it got infected. The doctor said it happens a lot. It’s never happened to me before, so it’s something that I am definitely going to prevent for the next time.”
