Dale Earnhardt Jr. regrets post race Talladega comments

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had some feisty comments about Talladega after the 24 car pile up on Sunday which left the driver finishing in 20th position and knocking him to 11th in the Chase, -51 points behind Chase front runner Brad Keselowski.

Earnhardt said, “If this is what we did every week I wouldn’t be doing it I will just put it to you like that. If this is how we raced every week I would find another job.”

He said that sort of racing is “ridiculous” and “not safe” and even went as far to say that fans that enjoyed watching that type of racing were “bloodthirsty.”

Now, Jr. is retracting what he said… well sort of.

In an interview with SBNation.com, Earnhardt Jr. said he regretted making some of the comments. He told them that with a new car in 2013 that racing could be completely different. That he has a more positive outlook on how racing could be at tracks like Daytona and Talladega.

“It was a bit heat of the moment, and I kind of regret getting that emotional about it. But I was just really upset about how that all went down. We’d run so good. I was really, really happy with my car in that race and I thought we should have been able to finish really good.”

Below is a video of the last lap crash on Sunday if you happened to miss it. Matt Kenseth was the winner of the race.
