Charlie Culberson’s latest run with the Braves is coming to an end without even appearing in a game.
Culberson was called up a month ago from Triple-A Gwinnett but was never used by the Braves. The team has now designated him for assignment to make room for Chadwick Tromp.
The Braves find themselves needing the catching services of Tromp after Sean Murphy irritated his hamstring during Saturday’s contest. Tromp has appeared in six games with the Braves this season where he holds a .125/.125/.188 line across 16 at-bats.
Culberson will be able to be claimed by anyone but the Braves likely hope the 34-year-old remains with the team as organizational depth.

To make matters less settling for Culberson is that his father was scheduled to throw out the first pitch. That honor ended up going to Michael Harris II’s father.

The Braves will not have a true infielder on the bench but could use Tromp at first or third in a pinch with Eddie Rosario an option at second base if necessary until a move is made later in the week.
In addition to the moves involving Culberson and Tromp, the Braves announced Kolby Allard has begun a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A.
