Regan Smith won the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Talladega Superspeedway. The race was delayed by three hours due to rain and later cut by ten laps due to concerns about darkness. At the end of the race Smith was declared the winner after a caution came out as the cars approached the start finish line.
Travis Pastrana sat on the pole for the event and led his first Nationwide Series laps aided by the bump draft of Trevor Bayne. On lap 14 Danica Patrick was spun by Turner Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson bringing out the first caution of the race. The accident would send Patrick to the garage while Larson headed there on lap 32 after busting a left rear tire.
On lap 73 Reed Sorenson was tapped by Brian Scott. Sorenson would come across the track into the path of Pastrana ending the pole sitters day.
Sam Hornish who entered the day as the series points leader was part of a 11 car wreck on lap 94 when he attempted to cut down the track in front of Johanna Long.
