Mickey Loomis expects Sean Payton to coach Saints

Mickey Loomis, New Orleans Saints general manager, went back to work on Tuesday after serving his eight game suspension, and although he has lots to do, one of the first things he did was look over suspended coach Sean Payton’s contract.

Loomis said he expects Payton to stay right where he is, as coach of the Saints.

“I absolutely expect Sean to be our coach next year and going forward. These contract issues will be resolved,” Loomis told reporters on Tuesday.

There have been rumors of Payton staying in New Orleans, or maybe heading to the Dallas Cowboys in 2013.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com isn’t so sure that Payton staying in New Orleans is a done deal, he said if that was the case, “the story wouldn’t have come out if it was a certainty. The contract would have been settled by now.”

Payton was suspended for a year from the NFL after being a part of the Saint’s Bounty program.
