Brad Keselowski, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. are just six of the drivers hoping to lock themselves into at least a Wild Card spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The magic number is 97, any driver that is 97 points ahead of 11th place at the end of the night will officially clinch a top ten spot.
A win by either Keselowski or Stewart will guarantee that they are in. Hamlin, Kahne, and Bowyer would need to win AND get some help.
Five time, NSCS Champion Jimmie Johnson can clinch his spot in the 2012 Chase if he wins, or if he finishes in second place after leading the most laps.
Greg Biffle, the current points leader will clinch his spot with a finish of 28th with no laps led, 29th with one lap led, and 30th with the most laps led.
The scenario for the No.17 of Matt Kenseth is he must finish 8th with no laps led, ninth with 1 lap led, or tenth with the most laps led.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., will clinch his spot in the Chase if he finishes sixth with no laps led, seventh with 1 lap led or eighth with the most laps led.
When a driver clinches a spot in the NSCS Chase they are awarded with a black and yellow cap with the 2012 Chase logo on it, currently no driver has one, but after this weekend that could all change.
Bristol Motor Speedway won’t make that easy on the drivers though. With its newly repaved surface, no one knows what to really expect out of a track that is known for beating and banging.
