Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook has been given a three game suspension for his hit on David Backes during the third period of Saturday’s Game 2 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Seabrook hit Backes, who did not have the punch, in the head. He was given a five minute penalty and a game misconduct.

“As Backes continues on his path toward the corner, well away from the puck and past the timeframe in which he is eligible to be checked, Seabrook drives up and into Backes delivering a blow with his right shoulder that causes Backes to slam violently into the glass and boards,” league disciplinarian Stephane Quintal said.

Down 2-0 in the series the Blackhawks are in trouble with Seabrook out the next three games.

Following the game Seabrook expressed concern.

“I feel bad seeing a guy like that on the ice. I’ve been there myself. I’m not trying to target his head,” Seabrook said. “I’m not trying to do anything like that. But it doesn’t feel good to see a player like that lying there like that.”
