Vikings place Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve

The season for Vikings rookie running back Jerick McKinnon has come to an end as the team has placed him on injured reserve.

McKinnon had missed the last two weeks with a back injury and had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jets. After taking over as the Vikings lead back he had a successful rookie campaign running for 538 yards on 113 carries (4.8 avg) while adding 27 catches for 135 yards.

Recent reports suggest that the Vikings believe that McKinnon can be a lead back. The future of Adrian Peterson is cloudy in Minnesota at best.

This week the Vikings will use the hot hand approach at running back with Matt Asiata, Ben Tate and Joe Banyard all getting carries.
