Cam Newton will not be limited, Carson Palmer out

After missing the season opener Cam Newton will play against the Lions on Sunday. Newton sat out with a rib injury while backup Derek Andereon led the Panthers to a win over the Buccaneers.

Newton has been prepared to play against the Lions all week and that has not changed. The quarterback’s ribs are said to be better and the expectation is that there will be no holding back on the play calling meaning Newton will be allowed to run if needed.

Given the Lions suspect defense, Newton should be a start for nearly every fantasy owner.

Carson Palmer expected to play against Giants

UPDATE: Carson Palmer will not play in Sunday’s game. Drew Stanton will start for the Cardinals.

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer’s outlook is not as good as Newtons. Palmer is currently dealing with a shoulder injury but currently is expected to start according to Ian Rapoport.

Of course ESPN’s Adam Schefter has Palmer at “50-50 at best.”

The decision on Palmer will come following some pre-game work. If he play then he would be a strong start against a Giants defense which was over-matched by Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson a week ago allowing 341 yards though the air.

If there is any good news for fantasy owners of Palmer it is that the Cardinals and Giants game is at 1 pm ET. If Palmer is unable to start for the team then Drew Stanton will draw the start. While Cardinals coach Bruce Arians is fond of Stanton, the backup is a downgrade for the Cardinals offense across the board.
