Browns dump Nate Burleson, Giants cut Curtis Painter

Bother by a hamstring injury during camp, Nate Burleson never really go a chance to show the Cleveland Browns if there was anything left in the tank.

On Saturday morning the team cut the 33-year-old wide receiver.

Given the lackluster names on the Browns depth chart at receiver this is not a good sign for the future of Burleson’s career. Another bad sign is the 15 total games he has appeared in over the last two seasons.

Someone may take a flier on the veteran with 457 career receptions for 5,640 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Nassib wins Giants backup QB job

The New York Giants made a move a year in the making waiving backup quarterback Curtis Painter.

With Painter out of the picture the Giants will allow last years fourth round pick Ryan Nabbib to be the clipboard holder of Eli Manning.

Nassib held his own this preseason going 44-of-74 for 588 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Painter, a former standout at Purdue who made a name as Peyton Manning’s former backup, will again look for a job on the free agent market. Given his skill set and track record he will likely have to wait until after Week 1.
