Those earlier reports that Johnny Manziel would start the Cleveland Browns second preseason game appear to be untrue.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport now says that Brian Hoyer will start the Browns second preseason game against the Washington Redskins.
The #Browns plan to start Brian Hoyer at QB this week against the #Redskins on Aug. 18 in preseason game No. 2, I’m told.

Both Hoyer and Manziel are expected to get time with the Browns first team offense. The Browns have not made it easy for Manziel to be the teams starter despite selecting him in the first round of this years NFL Draft.
If Hoyer is able to start the season as the Browns starter he will have one of the shorter leashes among starters. With the recent signing of Rex Grossman some inside the NFL believe the Browns are simply trying to play up Hoyer’s trade value.
