Cowboys looking at Brian Urlacher, Jonathan Vilma but not serious

How desperate are the Dallas Cowboys to find a middle linebacker in the wake of Sean Lee’s torn ACL? Desperate enough that they are taking a look at free agent options Brian Urlacher and Jonathan Vilma.

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder the Cowboys would replace Lee with a two-player platoon.

It has been a year since Urlacher retired after not being able to land a deal as a free agent. Now 36, Urlacher had been considered an option in Dallas a year ago but the team passed because of the presence of Lee. He has experience in Rod Marinelli’s defense but after sitting out a year it is hard to see him making a huge impact if signed.

While Werder broke the news in the early morning hours he has since backed off his statement a bit deeming the Cowboys interest as “not serious.”

The other name here is Jonathan Vilma. Just 32, Vilma has been plagued by knee troubles.

Ernie Sims and Pat Angerer are also free agent options for the Cowboys.
