The Carolina Panthers have landed safety Roman Harper on a two-year deal worth $4.5 million.

Harper , 31, had spent his entire eight year career with the New Orleans Saints. The deal for Harper includes a $1.5 million signing bonus. His role in Carolina is undefined but the Panthers safety corps is far from ideal.

Tate signs with Browns

The Cleveland Browns had a thin rotation at running back last season.

They have handed running back Ben Tate formerly of the Houston Texans on a one-year deal. Considered the best running back on the option, Tate could make up to $7 million.

Tate finished last season with 771 yards rushing (4.3 average) and four touchdowns.
