The New York Jets have released cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
By releasing the 29-year-old Cromartie the Jets will save $9.5 million against the salary cap as well as dumping a $4.3 million salary, $5 million roster bonus and a workout bonus scheduled to be $200,000.
On twitter Cromartie relayed the news tweeting “I would also like to give a big up to The Jets Fan base. Thank you for all the support thru my 4 yr career with you. Thank you again.”
Cromartie dealt with a hip injury last season and saw his play drop as a result. There should be a sizable market for Cromartie but how he preforms is anyone’s guess. The Jets have not ruled out re-signing him at a lower rate but will reportedly test the free agent market as well.
It was announced in January that he would not need hip surgery for his condition.
