Vikings not planning to trade Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson will be a focal point of the Minnesota Vikings offense again in 2014.

Vikings general manager Rick Speilman says that the teams star running back is not going anywhere.

“We have him under contract. He’s the face of our franchise. He is a blue-chip player. And we have a new coaching staff in place, and (the Vikings are) very excited about what’s coming ahead for us.” said Speilman.

Peterson, 28, just finished the third year of a seven-year, $100 million contract. On Thursday he underwent surgery on his groin but the Vikings have no concerns.

Speilman also told the Pioneer Press that Josh Freeman only one game for the Vikings because of determinations made by coaches.

Leslie Frazier was fired at the end of December and has since been replaced by Mike Zimmer. There was no indication of the Vikings plans at quarterback but most expect the team to draft one early.

Matt Cassel, Christian Ponder and Freeman all started at quarterback in 2013 for the Vikings.
