UPDATE: Peterson’s son has passed away
Adrian Peterson was excused from practice on Thursday by the Minnesota Vikings, and was later spotted in South Dakota.
It turns out the running back is dealing with a “tragic” situation reports NBC’s ProFootball Talk.
Stu Whitney of the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls reported that Peterson was in Sioux Falls “dealing with a medical issue involving young family member” and later tweeted that it was a “very serious” situation.

Reports began to circulate (TMZ) late last night and early this morning that 27-year-old Jospeh Patterson has been charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant.
According to reports, Patterson was home with the infant when emergency responders arrived at 5:46 pm ET on Wednesday. The child was unresponsive and later showed signs of abuse.
The 2-year-old child is the son of Adrian Peterson. Police reports indicate that the child suffered severe head injuries.
