Despite being arrested early Friday morning, Smith was allowed to play in Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
“First off, I wanted to apologize to the team, the organization, my family, everybody that I let down.” Smith said. “I also wanted to let it be known that this is a problem. It’s something I will get fixed, and I will do everything in my power to make sure that this never happens again.”
San Francisco CEO Jed York later announced that the 49ers would suspend Smith “indefinitely” and that there was “no timetable” for his return.
