Blaine Gabbert will start Week 1 of the NFL season as the quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars, even as he is expected to miss the rest of the preseason.
It will be Gabbert’s second straight opening week assignment. The third-year quarterback served as the backup in Week 1 of the 2011 season.

Gabbert has a hairline fracture on his right thumb but is expected to start the Jaguars season opener Sept. 8 against Kansas City.
Prior to injuring his thumb, Gabbert was 13-of-16 for 165 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars loss to the New York Jets on Saturday.
Should Gabbert not be able to play or proves to be ineffective the Jaguards figure to turn to Chad Henne.
