The Washington Redskins were intent on keeping tight end Fred Davis this offseason and have locked him up on a one-year deal.
Davis is recovering from a torn Achilles’ tendon.
By re-signing with the Redskins on a one-year deal the 27-year-old will have a chance to cash in on a bigger deal for more years next season if he proves to be healthy.
The Redskins are hopeful that Davis will be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around.
Keeping Davis will give second year quarterback Robert Griffin III a target in the middle of the field should the Redskins choose to use him that way. Last year Logan Paulsen took over the tight end job when Davis went down.
Paulsen was re-signed after catching 25 passes for 308 yards and a touchdown. Chris Cooley who signed with the Redskins after Davis’ injury is not expected to return.
