Cardinals exploring trade for Carson Palmer

CARSONPALMER

The Arizona Cardinals are exploring a trade for 33-year-old quarterback Carson Palmer. According to XTRA Phoenix the Cardinals are willing to trade conditional picks for the former Pro Bowler.

Palmer is owed $13 million for the 2013 season. Wherever Palmer plays it will likely be on a restructured deal.

The Raiders acquired Palmer from Cincinnati for a first round pick in the 2012 draft and a second rounder in the 2013 draft.

Acquiring Palmer is a risky proposition for the Cardinals. New coach Bruce Arians has stated that he believes Drew Stanton is an option to start. A trade for Palmer would relegate Stanton to the sidelines. The Cardinals would also have to figure out a way to restructure Palmer’s contract which has proved to be troublesome for the Raiders.

If the Raiders can not trade Palmer they may release him but at that point he would count $9.34 million against the salary cap.
