Two Tennessee football players are suspects in rape, sexual assault

Police in Knoxville are investing reports that two University of Tennessee football players raped and sexually assaulted two women in off-campus housing.

Since the players have not been charged police had declined to publicly release their names, however the Tennessean reports that they are linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive back Michael Williams.

At a regularly scheduled news conference, coach Butch Jones said that the school was in the process of gathering information adding “we will act in a decisive manner.”

“I want to be right, rather than fast,” Jones said.

The incidents allegedly occurred Sunday morning around 3 am. A 19-year-old was is a current University of Tennessee student told police she was raped by two male students. A second 19-year-old told police she was the victim of a sexual assault.
